ancient sunlight filtering through trees

I discovered leaf fossils known as leaf stones in the strata along the Aiki River. If their shape remains, we could reconstruct the form of the leaves from that era, and perhaps even recreate the pattern of sunlight filtering through the trees. I attempted to piece together the leaf fossils like a jigsaw puzzle, forming the shape of a leaf from the fossils found this time. I believe this act is akin to projecting the shape of past light into the present.

相木川沿いの地層の中に、木の葉石と呼ばれる葉の化石を見つけた。かたちが残っているのならば、当時の葉のかたちを再現することができるので、そのときの木漏れ日のかたちも再現できるのではないかと考えた。得られた葉の化石をパズルのように組み合わせて、少なくとも今回見つかった化石から想像できる葉のかたちをつくり、木漏れ日をつくろうとしてみた。それは、過去の光のかたちを現在に投影する振る舞いなのではないかと思う。
